He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent Crown entity established by the Climate Change Response Act 2002. Our role is to provide independent, expert advice to the government of the day on how to reduce emissions and how to adapt to the impacts of climate change. We also have a role to monitor and review the government’s progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals.

Our staff have a range of expertise, including public policy, kaupapa Māori, agriculture, climate science, economics, energy, forests, health, modelling, transport, urban planning, adaptation and waste. We use data, research, modelling, best practice and feedback from people around the motu to develop our advice. We get out and meet people, including in the regions, to listen to their views and understand the impacts on them from climate change and climate change policy. We also run formal public consultations for some of our work.
