Kapiti Island

One of New Zealand's oldest nature reserves and a place rich in history since pre-European times, Kapiti Island - through the process of Crown acquisition in 1897 there remains only 2 Maori owned land blocks on the island.

Where the majority of the island is covered in native flora and fauna as a nature reserve in the hands of the Crown, the lands below represent the final bastion of Maori representation left on the island.
